Title: Integrin heterodimers
Legend: Integrins (ITGs) are alpha-beta heterodimeric receptors that connect the extracellular environment with intracellular signaling events. Integrins are important for normal development and function, but are also involved in the pathogenesis of diseases including cancer, autoimmunity and heart disease. Besides cell adhesion, integrins mediate cell signaling via activation of molecular cascades such as those initiated by ILK (integrin linked kinase), FAK (focal adhesion kinase) and SFK (SRC family kinases) multifunctional intracellular effectors of cell-matrix interactions that regulates many cellular processes including growth, proliferation, survival, differentiation, migration, invasion and angiogenesis.
